Lakeview Sportsmen Outreach

The sportsmen ministry is for sportsmen and sportswomen that enjoy the outdoors. The main focus of the ministry is to bring people to Christ through the enjoyment of the outdoors and to create a fellowship for those interested that will further the church family relationship and create lifelong friendships together in Christ.

We are just beginning this ministry and will be doing lots of great things. Most of the activities will be outreach based, such as: archery tournaments, fishing tournaments, skeet shooting, camping, geo-caching and various group hunts throughout the year. We will be working towards charitable fundraisers as we grow.
We will meet the last Thursday of each month at 6:30PM at the church for an hour. We will worship the Lord usually with a devotion for the first half of the meeting and the last half will be fellowship.  For the October 27 meeting, we will meet at Bro. Leon Bogg's home.

July 22-23, 2012
Six of the members of the outreach group traveled to Hackberry, La. and did some night fishing on Lake Calcasieu.  Everyone had an enjoyable trip and had some good food and caught some nice speckled trout.

July 12, 2012
Some of the Sportsmen group helped some of the older children in VBS do some fishing on Turner Pond.  Not many fish were caught, but the kids enjoyed themselves.

July 7, 2012
Kyle Dobbins, Terry Scaggs, John King and Rev. Leon Boggs took some children to Homer, La. for a horseback trail ride at St. John's Ranch.  MOST of the children enjoyed riding the horses and those that changed their mind enjoyed swimming in the pool with Bro. Leon.  Everyone had a good time.

June 29-30, 2012
The Sportsmen group camped at Joe Holley's camp house for the monthly meeting and had good food, fellowship, and games.  Saturday morning, we fished on Joe's pond and caught a bunch of huge bream and bass.  They were mighty fine eating at lunch.  We appreciate Joe inviting us to his camp and for his hospitality.

September 15,2011
The group met at the Cypress Outdoor Expo that was organized by the Sportsmen Outreach group at the Cypress Baptist Church.  It was a lot of fun had by everyone.

June 26-27, 2011
Six of the members of the outreach group traveled to Hackberry, La. and did a little night fishing on Lake Calcasieu.  The people were great and everyone seemed to know Bro. Leon, since he was the Methodist preacher down there for many years.  It was a lot of fun.  Pictures from the trip can be seen in the slide show on the main page or in the photo section.  To visit the website of the charter fishing business we used, go to  http://www.hackberryrodandgun.com/staticpages/index.php/night_stalker_louisiana

June 3-4, 2011
Joe Holly opened up his camp house to the outreach group this weekend.  We had a lot of fun and fellowship and some outstanding food and fishing.  We caught enough fish on his huge pond to feed the group fried fish for lunch Saturday.  Some good fellowship with the group and a lot of fun.  Thanks go to Joe for opening up his home to us and doing all the cooking.  Great burgers and homemade sausage, Joe.

January 28, 2011
The Sportsmen Outreach group and their families attended the Bossier Mudbugs hockey game.  Everyone had a good time even though the Mudbugs lost the game.  Madison Hays got to show everyone how graceful she is on the big overhead screen at CenturyTel Center.

November 7, 2010
The Sportsmen Outreach group had an archery target shoot at the Fall Festival.  The kids loved it and kept coming back for more.  The top archer kids during the course of the afternoon had a tournament at the end of the evening and the winner received a kids devotional book.  The archery shoot was definitely a big hit.

October 15-16, 2010
There was much fun, fellowship and good food at the 1st Annual Squirrel Hunt and campout.  There were ten at the supper cookout, eight camped out that night and five stayed for the hunt.  Team Dobbins came in first with 4 squirrels.  We had great food and fellowship.  Lots of funny stories and an excellent breakfast devotional.  Thanks go to Jason Hays for setting things up and doing the cooking.  The kids enjoyed the outing, too.  They got to look for an armadillo.  Thanks also go to Grady Miller for being a scout and placing Team Dobbins in a good hunting area in Kisatchie.

Weekly Devotional (July. 26, 2011)

In Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ. (Colossians 2:9,10 NIV)

We have said that Christ is a heavenly revelation, but Christ is also a heavenly fullness. If God has revealed His mind, His thought in Christ; if all that God intended has been brought to us in a personal revelation: God has followed that up by the fullest provision in Christ for its realization and its attainment. So that every need of ours is supplied according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. In Christ there is not only a standard set, but every kind of provision for attaining to God’s standard. All the secret resources of God to reach His end are there in Christ for us. If He has come out with the mind of God in fullness, He has also come out with the resources of God in fullness. All the fullness dwells in Him, and we are made full in Him (Col. 2:9). God could never judge us at the end by His standard of revelation if He had not made all provision for our realizing of that standard....

God’s thought is centered in Christ in heaven, and God’s resources are centered in Christ in heaven. That means that the Lord’s people in this dispensation are essentially a heavenly people, and that means that it is quite impossible to attain unto God’s thought or to know God’s resources in Christ until we are a heavenly people. If in any way (and we are speaking to the Lord’s people now, and speaking of the life which we would call the Christian life), or in any measure we are earthbound, it will be in that measure impossible to attain unto God’s thought, and to know God’s resources. God only takes responsibility to supply and to carry on that which is essentially heavenly, and in the measure in which a thing is heavenly, and only in that measure (but surely in that measure), God takes responsibility for it. If it is in any way linked with this world, becoming a part of this world system, related to this earth, it has got to take responsibility for itself to carry its own weight, to find its own resources, to see its own way through.
